2279 (Wrexham) Squadron parades two evenings a week. We have a number of activities organised on squadron throughout the year, see the activities section for more details.
We parade in two buildings specially designed for the needs of the Air Training Corps.
A typical parade night would look something like this:
Initial Parade-18:45 hrs - NCO's will take the register, and brief the Cadets on the planned activity for the night.
Activity- 19:00 hrs- 2000hrs
Break- 2000 hrs -2015 hrs
Activity 2015-2100hrs
Final Parade 2100hrs-2115hrs. The CO will make any presentations and announcements.
What activities happen on a parade night?
A typical parade night varies depending on the time of year. In the summer, we plan activies such as Initiative exercises, Communication exercises, Sports nights, and much more.
During the winter months, the cadets get to learn various subjects relating to the ATC, RAF and aviation. These include Principles of Flight, Airmanship, History of the RAF, and many more.
We also arrange for activities off the squadron premises, these have included bowling, and Laser Quest.
In order to take part in these activities, the cadets have to put some hard
work into the squadron. Cadets are in charge of keeping the squadron buildings clean, and tidy. Occasionally the cadets are asked to help out with local community events.
Drill and discipline is a big part of cadet life. In the summer we practice drill
every night. We believe in drill for good reasons. Drill can build up your self
confidence and help you take pride in your appearance, as well as building up teamwork skills.
